A: The Mistress Jade Trophy Game, Pt.5
Fred (telling story): She threw them out— Amerait's Own as well as my group— and told them that they were not to come back without a permission slip, signed by me, vouching for their good behaviour. They fell over themselves to comply with her order. I wished I could get them to obey me that rapidly, but I doubted I would ever have the stature for it. For one thing, I did not fill out a negligee quite the way Mistress Jade did.
B: In Conclusion
Fred (telling story): In order to win the coveted pass, they had to show a marked improvement in demeanor. It's amazing how fast they shaped up. Jade was grateful to me for trying to save her house from the MP's, and to show her appreciation, she sent me a new copy of the tattered Trophy photo I had burned.
Fred: And that's it. My orderly must have found the photo while tidying up after I'd left for America, and decided to play a prank on me.
Kathy: And the chess?
Fred: That came later.
Kathy: How much later?
Fred: Much later—
