A: The Keys to the Future
Fred: Traditional cultures by definition do not embrace change easily. I won't force anyone to change— there are ways to use technology to help improve people's lives without making them give up their familiar way of life.
Fred: The spaceport may not seem like the logical place to start, but it will serve the entire area as a means of transport for goods and people, enriching the country and providing the resources for the infrastructure improvements.
Fred: Once that is operational, we can tackle the water projects. Water security means food security, and food security means less stress and work for everyone. And a well-fed population is a peaceful population.
Fred: I don't want to make pastoralists into urban technocrats; I just want to make everyone rich and contented. If I can leave this place in better shape than I found it, I will have done my job.
B: Louie's Obsession
Sandy: Y'know, you say you hate this place, but I think that you love it!
Fred: I do not—!<.i>
Sandy: You looooove it! *Smooch!* *Smooch!* *Smooch!*
Fred: Ew—! Stop it!
Sandy: *Smooch!* *Smooch!* *Smooch!*
Fred: SOMEONE GIVE HER MORE OF THOSE PILLS, PLEASE—!
