A: Job Satisfaction?
Fred: Forgive me, Ma'am, but the time grows short. We will soon be in Kiyanti, and you will face many challenges— serious challenges— to your right to rule! You must be prepared to assert yourself!
Kathy: Louie, I don't want this job! I never did! You know that! I don't think I can do it!
Fred: None of want the jobs we have! Do you think I enjoy my job? I don't! I hate it, and I hate everything about this place! But I have no choice, so I do the best job I can! And you must do the same!
Kathy: I don't think I can!
Fred: I will help you. I'll be drilling y-er, tutoring you... I know every trick in the book for surviving here...
B: Into The Breach
Fred: I've had years to learn how things work here. Or don't work. The Duchess has little interest in governance, so I have stepped into the breach, so to say...
Fred: As long as the Duchess lives, I have free rein to do as I see fit. But once she dies... and if either Jinjur or Vyschuss succeed to the throne...
Fred: ...if they do not kill me outright, I'm sure they will deprive me of any influence I have acquired. Which would, of course, be disastrous for the country.
