Sandy: Kahakai has invited us to her village for dinner tonight!
Kathy: Tell her we're gonna hafta take a rain check.
Sandy: Mahalo, 'a'ole hiki ia makou ke hele i keia po.
Kahakai: Malia paha i ka po'apopo—?
Sandy: Malia! Mahalo!
(Kathy and Sandy leave, each carrying a bite-sized herring)
Kathy: I didn't know you spoke Lutran.
Sandy: I learned a few phrases— mainly to keep Dave's family from running in terror when I came to visit them.
