A: Not Exactly Google Earth
Horn: Now, the Derchi and the Ciabatta flow out of Lake Victorinox. We could just follow the river, but as the Lieutenant observed, it's crawling with crocodiles. Plus it makes a wide sweep to the east before it turns to the west. By cutting straight across country in a northwesterly direction, we can easily save ourselves forty miles— two day's travel.
B: Rough Road Ahead
Kathy: So— what— You figure about twenty more miles to go?
Horn: It's twenty miles of rough country between here and there.
Horn: There's a reason this shortcut isn't used much anymore. It is shorter—
Horn: —but it passes through areas where the locals don't always... respect hyenas. As long as I'm with you, you'll be okay, though. I'll get you safely to Kiyanti.
